Hey Vtk and Paraview Community

First of my apologies for my basic question but I am very new to both of this packages! I would like to write a plug in for Paraview, where this plug in can manipulate two joint object (Joint Visualization), and I want to be able to look underneath the surface and be able to see the other object underneath, its structure, density and where they intersect.
I have been looking in to How to write filter in vtk (Off of VTK Guide), do you have any idea what supper class is the best to use for this purpose, most of the filters I saw are based on some supper class (of Vtk or Paraview). Any ideas and directions on how to do this is really appreciated, I am a newbie here and I am just trying to get hang of it.
