To install in /usr/local you need root privileges (sudo make install). If you want to install elsewhere, run cmake and change the value of CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX to your home directory for example.<br><br><div class="gmail_quote">

I'm trying to build the VTK library 5.6 from source on a fedora (Cambridge)<br>
machine. I'm getting the following error while running make install:<br>

CMake Error at cmake_install.cmake:36 (FILE):<br>
file cannot create directory: /usr/local/lib/vtk-5.6. Maybe need<br>
administrative privileges.<br>

Can anyone confirm that I need root access or could it be a bigger problem.<br>
Is there anyway around this issue without admin privileges?<br>
