0011441: VTK needs feature to clip arbitrary vtkPolyDatas
VTK does not have a PolyData/PolyData clipper. This has come up on the mailing lists a lot.

Unfortunately, vtkClipPolyData works only on simple shapes like spheres, cones, planes, etc. and not with arbitrary vtkPolyDatas.

One solution is the VTK Journal article "Boolean Operations on Surfaces for VTK":

http://www.insight-journal.org/browse/publication/726 [^]

While excellent, it depends on several 3rd party LGPL-licensed libraries. The LGPL is incompatible with VTK's license, and so it cannot be included into VTK.

Please see http://hdl.handle.net/10380/3262 [^] for an implementation that does not depend on external libraries.
