0012195: ParaView slows to a halt even without doing anything
I downloaded ParaView-3.10.1-Linux-x86_64.tar.gz binary from http://www.paraview.org/paraview/resources/software.html, [^] and used it on a Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64-bit Dual Quad-Core Xeon processor PC. I turned on "Use Multi-core". However, I found that once ParaView starts, it grabs all CPU cycles even before doing anything. The software almost slows to a halt. Every action takes painfully long time to complete.
Download ParaView-3.10.1-Linux-x86_64.tar.gz binary and use it on a Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64-bit PC.

Chances are the MPI version against which ParaView was built uses a busy loop when awaiting messages from process 0. Your best bet is to start MPI with one fewer processes than you have cores so that the UI remains responsive.
