DescriptionAs of 2007-08-09 the latest version of expat is 2.0.1. See http://expat.sourceforge.net/index.html [^]

VTK and ITK both include 1.95.2 according to comments in expat.h. That version is from 2002 or earlier, it's not even listed on their "old news" page. :(

Despite the current version being 2.x and not 1.x, the code is of the same lineage and still the same API, see:
http://expat.sourceforge.net/oldnews.html [^]

Newer expat is likely to better support 64 bit machines, as they have become much more popular in recent years.
