[vtkusers] Need help regarding running VTK examples

hello.vtk is not a tcl script - it is a datafile and you shouldnt run
vtk hello.vtk

Look for scripts like Cone.tcl and run them instead like so:

$ vtk Cone.tcl

this should work.
