[vtkusers] Newby needs advice: how to get vertices from VTK file?

Hello all,
  I'm new to VTK.  Somebody sent me a VTK file which represents the surface of a human liver.  The surface has been triangulated, and I would like to obtain the 3D coordinates of the triangles.  Could somebody please tell me what would be the simplest way for me to obtain these triangle coordinates?
