[vtkusers] vtkExtractEdges actor does not respond to SetOpacity, is there a fix or workaround for this

Hi,
 
I would like to make an edges actor transparent but
 
[edgeActor GetProperty] SetOpacity 0.1
 
does not work.
 
Is there another way to achieve this, or has it been fixed in new versions of vtk?, I am using 4.2.?? windows binary distribution
 
(I would rather not upgrade at the moment if possible)
