[vtkusers] error when building vtk snapshot

hi folks, yesterday I downloaded a vtk snapshot and when I try to
build it with the python bindings using sip I get the following error:

"fatal error: Python.h: No such file or directory"

and yes, I have Python.h in my system (ubuntu 10.10), it's located in
/usr/include/python2.6/

any suggestions?
